The primitive method of selecting an item to purchase is to go to a store, go from counter to counter, from display rack to display rack until you finally find "it". Someone though up mail order catalogs but they really did not do justice to the product. Because of the small picture sizes, it was pretty hard to write down an order when you might recieve something different.
